Zanzibar is the perfect definition of a tropical island. Turquoise oceans, pearl-white beaches and loads of palmtrees. On top of that the island and its ocean are filled with gorgeous wildlife and empty beaches waiting to be explored.
Zanzibar is your ideal destination to relax after your exhausting trip in the main land of Tanzania, but is also an amazing place for loads of water activities and great parties!
There is a broad range of things to do in Zanzibar. On the ocean, you may spend your days swimming with dolphins, go on a fishing tour or explore the underwater world on a diving- or snorkeling excursion.
Prefer to be on water? Then there are countless water sports activities such as wind- and kitesurfing, parasailing and paddle boarding through the mangrove forests.
The mainland of Zanzibar is also very enjoyable and offers loads of fun and interesting activities. Discover its monkey-filled forests, go on adventurous hikes, join a local island tour, explore hidden deserted beaches or visit the island’s wildlife sanctuary.
In Zanzibar’s towns you can visit many restaurants with excellent, freshly caught seafood, go party at one of the numerous bars or explore the local shops with unique, handmade products. In the capital city of Zanzibar you can spend the day getting lost in its narrow streets, gazing at the city’s unique architectural mixture of Arabic and African culture. No traveller will be bored here.

Just south of the equator, Zanzibar’s weather pattern follows that of Tanzania’s coastline very closely, but if you just came from Arusha or Moshi, the weather temperatures are going to be pleasantly warm. The temperature on Zanzibar are generally fine, but there’s a couple of rainy seasons to take account of.
Generally the main rainy season, or the ‘long rains’, last during March, April and May. These can be heavy (usually morning and afternoon) downpours. During these months the humidity is also quite high.
The long dry season (and generally seen as the best time to visit Zanzibar) lasts throughout June, July, August, September and October. This usually means, clear blue skies and sunny weather!
During November and December there’s another rainy season: the ‘short rains’. These are much lighter than the main rains and less reliable. This period is still great to visit Zanzibar as it’s still nice and warm. Usually great to do some activities. Rain usually only falls early morning or late afternoon and it stays dry during the day.
