Whether you are dreaming of a luxury private safari, romantic dinners in the heart of nature or a relaxing ending on a tropical island, we take care of every detail.

How does it work?

Planning your dream trip starts with a personal conversation where we’ll get to know eachother and discuss the travel wishes and requirements of you and your partner. We’ll go over your travel style, preferred accommodations and budget.

We will also explain more about our journeys and ask a few targeted questions to get a clear picture of your ideal honeymoon to Tanzania. Still unsure or need ideas? No problem. We are happy to offer suggestions and share a few great options.

Next, we create a detailed, tailor-made itinerary — including a clear day-by-day program, accommodations, activities, pricing and an overview of all included services. You’ll also receive practical information about Tanzania, so you can travel stress-free and well-prepared.

Advice from our specialists

Travel Tips for an Incredible Honeymoon

1. Start planning early! It’s best to start planning at least six months in advance. The most beautiful lodges and best deals fill up quickly, especially the smaller tented camps. For your honeymoon, you want nothing but the best, so make sure you don’t miss out on your first choice.

2. Take time to relax. You’ll often stay in stunning locations, so make sure to enjoy them. Head back to your lodge early one day and unwind with a cocktail overlooking a waterhole where elephants come to drink. It would be a shame to only use these places for eating and sleeping.

3. Share your wishes with the guides. Want to spend all day searching for that one elusive leopard, or are you a passionate birdwatcher? Let your guide know. They’re happy to tailor the experience to your preferences. You’re in charge of the pace and focus of your trip. It’s your adventure.

4. Consider spending 3 days in the Serengeti. If your schedule allows, plan at least three days in the Serengeti. It gives you enough time to explore the area thoroughly and at a relaxed pace, and to see a wider range of wildlife.

Frequently Asked Questions About Honeymoons in Tanzania

Planning a honeymoon safari to Tanzania and have questions? We’re here to help. From the best travel times and romantic lodges to unique honeymoon experiences and practical tips, below you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you plan the ultimate romantic adventure. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Feel free to reach out. We’re happy to assist you personally.

How many days should we spend in Tanzania and Zanzibar for a honeymoon?

A well-balanced honeymoon typically spans 12 to 16 days, allowing time for a 5–7 day safari in Tanzania followed by 5–7 days unwinding on Zanzibar or one of Tanzania’s other magical islands.

If you want to visit Serengeti, you’ll need a minimum of 4 full safari days, due to the long driving distancees. 5 or more is ideal for a comfortable and unrushed experience. This gives you time to explore multiple parks without feeling rushed..

These estimates do not include your arrival and departure days or any time you might want for extra activities or rest days. We’re happy to help tailor the itinerary to your travel style and pace.

Is Tanzania a safe destination to go on honeymoon?

Yes, Tanzania is considered a safe destination for honeymooners. The main tourist areas, including the national parks and Zanzibar, are well-established and frequently visited by international travelers.

As with any country, it’s important to use common sense. Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas, keep your valuables secure, and follow local guidance.

How much does a honeymoon to Tanzania cost?

As a guideline, a 14-day honeymoon (including around 5 days on safari and 7 days on Zanzibar) typically starts from around $450 USD per person per day for the safari portion, based on mid-range accommodations for 2 persons. This includes private 4×4 transport, a professional guide, park fees, and full board.

The Zanzibar portion is often more affordable, since there are fewer logistical costs such as park fees or vehicle hire. Luxury beach resorts, boutique hotels, and romantic extras like spa treatments or private dinners can be added depending on your preferences.

In the end the cost of a honeymoon in Tanzania and Zanzibar depends on your choice of accommodations, travel style, and activities—but we’re here to tailor everything to your budget.

When's the best time of year to visit Tanzania for a honeymoon safari?

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination. However; the dry season (June to October) is ideal for safaris, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. For beach relaxation in Zanzibar, January to March also provides warm and sunny conditions. Keep in mind that April and May are the long rainy seasons, which might affect travel plans.

How far in advance should we book our honeymoon safari?

It’s advisable to book 6 to 12 months in advance, especially if you’re planning to travel during peak seasons (June–October and December–February). Early booking ensures availability in preferred accommodations and allows ample time for personalized itinerary planning.

Do we need a visa for Tanzania and Zanzibar?

Yes, most travelers need a visa to enter Tanzania, which also covers Zanzibar. You do not need a separate visa for the island, as both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar are part of the same country.

Visas can usually be obtained on arrival at the airport or applied for online in advance through Tanzania’s official e-visa system. It’s recommended to check the latest entry requirements based on your nationality before you travel.

How long are the gamedrives?

Game drives can be as long as you like within park regulations. There’s no ‘2 drives of 1.5 hours’. Most national parks operate on a sunrise-to-sunset schedule, and entry fees typically cover 24 hours with a single entry.

If you’re staying overnight inside the park, you have the flexibility to plan your drives however you prefer—go out early for a sunrise safari, return for breakfast or lunch, and head out again in the afternoon. This allows you to experience different wildlife activity throughout the day at your own pace.

Are there any health precautions we should take before traveling?

Yes, it’s recommended to consult your healthcare provider before traveling to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Common vaccinations may include yellow fever, hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus. Malaria is present in many areas, so taking antimalarial medication is often advised.

It’s also a good idea to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and a basic medical kit with any personal medications you may need.

Do we need vaccinations for Tanzania?

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory if you’re arriving from or transiting through a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission. It’s also recommended to consult with a healthcare provider about malaria medications and other routine vaccinations.

Can we customize our honeymoon itinerary?

Yes. Your itinerary can be fully tailored to your preferences. You can choose which destinations to visit, what level of accommodation you prefer, and which activities you want to include, such as a hot air balloon safari, romantic beach dinners, or cultural experiences.

Do your lodges cater to dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, etc.)?

Yes, we ensure all your dietary needs are communicated clearly to each lodge and camp. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or have specific allergies, you can relax knowing you’ll be well taken care of throughout your honeymoon.

Do the safari lodges and camps have electricity and Wi-Fi?

Most of the hand-picked lodges and tented camps we work with provide electricity and basic Wi-Fi access, depending on the area. While connections may be limited in remote areas, it’s a great excuse to unplug and be fully present in the moment.

What is the tipping etiquette on a safari?

Tipping in Tanzania is a common practice and an important source of income for many in the
hospitality and tourism sector. While we’ve offered suggested amounts, tipping should ultimately
reflect your satisfaction and experience.

If you’re traveling privately as a family, a tip of $20 – $25 per group per day is appropriate.
Tipping for cooks, rangers and similar roles typically ranges around $5 per person per day.

For local employees at hotels and similar establishments, a small tip of $1 is a kind gesture to
acknowledge their assistance.

Do we need travel insurance for a honeymoon in Tanzania?

We strongly recommend it. Travel insurance provides peace of mind in case of cancellations, delays, medical issues, or lost luggage. Make sure your policy includes medical evacuation, especially if you’ll be visiting remote safari areas.

How can i be sure my payment is safe?

Your funds are protected through a recognized guarantee fund. This ensures your money is secure in the unlikely event of changes or cancellations beyond your control.

At the location itself, there were great guides and accommodations. Everything was perfectly arranged! With a special thank you to Hector, our guide for the 9-day safari. With so much experience and knowledge, he showed us the most beautiful sights in the national parks. A fantastic trip. I would definitely book with Arusha Trips again and recommend it to others!

In August 2026, we booked a private family trip through Arusha Trips for our family (2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 15), consisting of 8 days of safari and 6 days in Zanzibar. Even before the trip, contact with Arusha Trips went wonderfully, allowing us to create the perfect itinerary together. All the parks we wanted to see were included, and regarding the accommodations, we received many options and suggestions, allowing us to choose the ones we wanted to take. All the accommodations were truly top-notch, especially Tukaone Tented Camp and Tarangire Simba Lodge. Here, you really got the feeling of the movie Out of Africa. Close to and among the wild animals! The first day was a nice relaxing day in Forrest Hill, enjoying the pool, a beautiful view of Mount Meru, and also many beautiful birds in the garden. The second day was in Arusha NP, including a walking safari, which was absolutely amazing and brought us very close to many animals. The third day was at Lake Manyara, our first time face-to-face with elephants. We took a 2-hour canoe trip here, which was a wonderful experience with beautiful views of the park, where global warming is also very clearly visible. After that, three days in Serengeti National Park, which really is the most beautiful thing you can see; so much stunning nature, those kopjes, those vast plains, and of course, all the animals. Lions, leopards, giraffes, hyenas, cheetahs, wildebeest, hippos, elephants, vultures, zebras, just to name a few. And then, of course, the overnight stays in the tented camps—such a fun experience and yet so comfortable. Listening to all the sounds of nature. The icing on the cake was, of course, the fact that we got to witness the wildebeest migration not once, but twice in one day. Then, after a nice descent, arriving at Ngorongoro Crater—super idyllic—and so much wildlife. Once again, we were incredibly spoiled by the animals. We saw rhinos up close, had lunch at a hippo pool, and so much more. Then a day at Tarangire NP, again so much more than expected: swimming zebras and wildebeest, elephants that are quite a bit bigger than elsewhere, and then those baobab trees. Then we enjoyed the pool at Tarangire Simba Lodge for a while before going on a night game drive, where we saw many different animals than you can see during the day: bushbabies, serval cats, and chameleons… The next day was saying goodbye to Tanzania Mainland to head to Zanzibar. Here, we had quite a few excursions planned again: Cheetah Rock, swimming with horses in Jambiani, swimming with dolphins in Kizimkazi, a snorkeling trip to Mnemba Island—all arranged perfectly. Throughout the entire trip, Arusha Trips was also always available to answer all our practical questions via WhatsApp, but everything was also arranged so smoothly. Of course, we also definitely want to thank our guide/driver whom Arusha Trips arranged for us: Joseph Chipeta. Not only did he ensure that everything went smoothly and safely, but thanks to him we also saw the Big Five, witnessed the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River twice, saw lions eating, and so much more. His knowledge of the country, the parks, and the animals was truly top-notch. It was also evident that, thanks to his years of experience, he was very well-liked and respected by other guides, and that he was happy to show us everything. We would therefore like to thank Arusha Trips and Joseph Chipeta for giving us the trip of a lifetime, and if it had been possible, we would have gone on safari again immediately.

You should book with Arusha Trips - with some tips, you will have an amazing trip! We have just returned from a fantastic 8 day trip where we have been to Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorogoro, Olduvai Gorge and we decided to skip Tangire - we were so tired and satisfied with the amazing views, animals and more that we had seen. :-) The tour company has this safari down to a science but, be sure to confirm all details before you commit. I am "mature" and we went when it was super hot (over 90 degrees). I had asked for Air Conditioning and didn't get it. It was a problem and the team at Arusha tired their best to assist on the fly but, I was overheating and having swelling issues due to the lack of accommodations to cool off. We also told them that our flight arrived at 5 am at the beginning but, then found out we had to pay extra to have a room for us at arrival after 23 hours of travel. These things are details that are key to be aware of when you book. However, I do have to recommend this Safari to you without reservation. Going with a local provider direct saves you money and throughout the safari, we saw the Nat Geo, Kennsignton and the Four Seasons Land Cruisers at the same picnic spots, etc that we frequented. I'm sure the difference in cost was on accommodations but, this Safari is the way to go. Dao was great and picked us up at the airport for our transfer. He was very kind and tried his best on the roads. He was a joy while we looked like the walking dead after travelling for a full day and landing at 5 am. There are different drivers for the airport, Arusha Day tour and then the Safari Tour. Each have their own specialties. You will get to know and work with many people on your trip. Now the absolute best part: Our guide Nelson. You should ask for him when you take this Safari. He is fantastic! He knew how to tell us all about the animals and trees and plants, knows the roads and how to drive well. He also managed to help us see the Big 5, a momma Cheetah and her four cubs as well as 7 lions feasting on a recent Zebra kill. He is an excellent spotter and works well with the other drivers in the parks. Nelson made our trip. He also has a new Land Cruiser. Always request a new Land Cruiser for your safari. They are amazing machines and Nelson took great care of the car and us. Because it is a private tour, Nelson was open to our suggestions. If we wanted to look somewhere a little longer, or leave half an hour later, he was great. I would recommend early drives in Serengeti as the animals are out and cool. The sunrise is beautiful and the whole vibe is so calm and tranquil. The accommodations have different types of tent camps. You should know that the roads are almost exclusively dirt with deep grooves - everywhere. This includes to the accommodations. You can be in the Land Cruiser for up to 3 hours of driving before getting to a park or after a drive to the accommodations. It is a joy to get out of the car! Most accommodations do not have hair dryers due to solar power and there are different types of camps. Migration camps do not have any climate control nor fans. You can't even charge your phone in your tent. You want to have permanent camps and tents in my opinion. The power is more stable. Same with the flooring and bug abatement as they seal better too. Either way - you will have nature all around you at all the camps and the sameish food. Elephants, Hyenas, water buffalo, zebras and more were all around us. All lodges were well secured. Walkie Talkies were used in the dark to call security. During the darkness, it is recommended to always have an escort walk with you in case there are animals. A highlight is Sound of Nature in the Serengeti. You should try and use their services if possible. We also made sure to go to Olduvai Gorge where some of our earliest examples of humanity have been discovered. It is a Nerdy pit stop but, so worth it. It is the cradle of so much of our evolution. The museum is great and the bathrooms alone make the stop worth it. Trust me on this, Ladies! Lastly, do not forget to tip your driver and tip them well if they do a good job. It is a very physically demanding job and your driver takes your safety seriously. My husband had to pee on the Serengeti and Nelson made sure he was safe. That alone is priceless as were the reactions of the Wildebeests wondering what animal was marking their territory :-). As an aside, Leopard is the company Costco contracts with. I compared them with Arusha Trips and ultimately went with Arusha Trips. I am very happy with the decision and hope this helps you on your journey!
