On this day trip, we will visit Lake Manyara National Park. Unlike other parks, Lake Manyara is smaller but more diverse. It’s much greener, with lush forests and a vast lake that shares its name. In fact, the lake covers most of the park.
The park is famous for its hippo pool, where many hippos spend their days, and for its diverse landscapes. Not to mention the thousands of flamingos that migrate here each year.
The trip begins with an early morning departure from Arusha. From there, we drive straight to Lake Manyara National Park, a journey of about two and a half hours.
You’ll be driving in a spacious 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, offering a 360-degree view. During your day trip in Lake Manyara National Park, you might encounter animals such as hippos, flamingos, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, warthogs, impalas, buffalos, baboons, and blue vervet monkeys. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a lion lounging in a tree! Of course, there’s plenty more wildlife waiting to be discovered.
Driving through the park is an exciting and adventurous experience. Here, you might get surprisingly close to the animals—sometimes without even realizing it! So, keep your eyes and ears open.
During the wet seasons (November–December and March–May), the lake can expand to cover up to 60% of the park’s total area—an impressive 231 km². During these months, its high-alkaline waters attract a variety of migratory waterbirds, including the iconic pink flamingos.
After our lunch break, we’ll head out for another game drive to search for any animals we may have missed, making sure to check off as many incredible wildlife encounters as possible. At the end of the day, we’ll prepare for the drive back to Arusha.
This day trip can be booked as a private excursion or as part of a group. If you’d like to join a group, just send us an inquiry, and we’ll find one for you!
