Witness one of nature’s most remarkable moments: baby turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean for the very first time! After a short boat ride to Juani Island, you’ll enjoy a scenic walk through the village and along forest paths before reaching the beach where this unforgettable event takes place.
Your adventure begins with a boat transfer from Mafia Island to Juani. From there, a guided walk of around 45 minutes takes you through the village and past beautiful landscapes, where you have the chance to see a variety of bird species and, with a little luck, monkeys!
Arriving at the beach, you’ll witness the extraordinary sight of tiny green sea turtle hatchlings emerging from their nests and instinctively heading towards the waves. This rare and moving experience offers a glimpse into the fragile early moments of the turtles’ lives.
The project is supported by Sea Sense, a charity that has been active on Juani Island for many years, working to protect turtles and other threatened marine species. Your visit directly contributes to these conservation efforts.
After spending time on the beach, you’ll return by boat to Mafia Island.
