Our local guides. We believe that the happiest guides create the most memorable safaris. At Arusha Trips, we only work with local guides who are not only knowledgeable, but truly passionate about their work. We believe that a good guide makes for a good safari, but a great guide makes for an unforgettable one.
All of our guides work incredibly hard and always go the extra mile to make sure you feel right at home. They are great at spotting wildlife and know the parks like the back of their hand. That’s something we’re proud of.
Safari vehicles. For our safaris, we use the latest 4×4 Toyota Landcruisers, capable of overcoming the roughest terrains. All vehicles feature large windows and a pop-up roof to get a 360° view. They come equipped with electricity ports to charge your camera & phone, a fridge for cold beverages, two way radio communication, cushy seats, binoculars, animal books and more. This ensures a comfortable ride anytime, anywhere. We also offer unlimited game-mileage, meaning you can drive as far and as long as you want!
Why a good car is important: The terrain in Tanzania is rugged and consists of off-road trails that can change from sand to deep mud puddles in a heartbeat. To be fully prepared, we service our cars before every trip, to make sure they are in mint condition. A good car is half the battle and a properly maintained vehicle reduces the chance of breakdowns that could delay your safari.
A private, tailor-made safari is simply the best way to experience Tanzania.
All of our safaris are 100% Tailor-made. This means we offer personalised travel down to the smallest details. Each day and every accommodation can be tailored to suit the individual needs and interests of your group. From the pinnacle of luxury to a raw, local experience. Anything is possible.
With a private safari, you have complete control over your own schedule. Your personal safari guide goes wherever you wish. Do you want to spend the whole day looking for that one leopard, or just relax by the pool and gaze at the elephants drinking at the waterhole? It’s up to you!
Together with your personal Tanzania-specialist, you create your ideal safari, one on one. We combine your preferences and wishes with our in-dept knowledge of Tanzania to create that perfect holiday.
Sustainable tourism in Tanzania
As travelers, we want to enjoy our holidays as much as possible, but at the same time we have to consider the environmental impact our journeys may have. Therefore, we try to do as much as we can to keep our environmental footprint to a minimum.
Arusha Trips was founded out of love for nature and wildlife. In fact, our entire business relies on it. Naturally, we want Tanzania’s wildlife to thrive and it’s nature to flourish, so we can continue enjoying its incredible natural wonders for generations to come.
For this reason (and many others), we are actively involved in creating a more sustainable future for the safari industry, without compromising our guests’ experiences. Starting by drastically reducing our plastic usage/waste and opting sustainable alternatives in all aspects of our operations, as well as sharing our knowledge & practices with our local partners.

Once you set foot on Tanzanian soil and leave Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be immediately embraced by the friendly and inviting ‘hakuna matata’ atmosphere of Tanzania.
Outside, your dedicated driver will be awaiting you with a broad smile, ready to accompany you to the lodge where you’ll receive a heartfelt welcome. During the journey, you will catch a glimpse of Tanzania’s stunning landscapes and perhaps even the impressive Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Upon arrival, we will provide a briefing on tomorrow’s program while you enjoy a delightful local drink.
Karibu Sana! (You’re most welcome)
Get ready for a unique and thrilling experience as we put on our hiking boots and head out for a walking safari in Arusha National Park! Located just a short 30-minute drive away from Arusha Town, this park is home to a variety of wildlife including giraffes, buffalos, zebras, black and white colobus monkeys, and a wide range of birds. During our walk, we’ll be accompanied by an armed ranger who will guide and protect us as we come face-to-face with these incredible animals.
Arusha National Park is divided into three districts, each offering its own unique landscape and sights to explore. The Momella Lakes district, for instance, is home to thousands of flamingos that migrate between Lake Manyara and here, providing an unforgettable sight during the right time of year. Additionally, the Mount Meru and Ngurdoto Crater districts boast their own unique natural wonders, all located at the foot of the impressive Mount Meru.
Far outside of town, away from all the tourists, you’ll find the local Maasai trading market. This bustling marketplace serves as a vibrant hub where the Maasai gather to exchange their prized possessions, such as cattle, clothing, and various goods.
Witness the vibrant atmosphere as Maasai men and women proudly display their livestock, adorned in their traditional attire, showcasing their rich cultural heritage. Engage in the lively bartering and trading activities, where the value of goods is negotiated with skill and expertise.
In the afternoon, we’ll visit ‘the mamas’ for some Tanzanian cooking. After a short meet and greet, the mamas will take you to a local food market to buy the ingredients needed for the meal. Here, you can explore a real local market and try your hand at haggling for the best price.
Once the ingredients are gathered, your mama will demonstrate how to cook one of their favorite local dishes while sharing insights about their lives in Tanzania.
After cooking, we’ll sit together to enjoy the delicious meal we’ve prepared, sharing a special moment with everyone.
The upcoming days we’ll get the chance to explore the deadly, yet captivating surroundings of Lake Natron. Located about 3.5 hours drive away from Mto Wa Mbu/Manyara, lies the bright-pink, boiling alkaline lake that is so deadly, it turns its visitors to stone!
Only one animal seems to thrive in this perilous habitat; the Pink Flamingo. The lake’s pinkish-white crust, rich in salt, magnesite, and sodium carbonate, provides the flamingos with essential nutrients, sustaining their vibrant pink color. Together with your guide, you’ll walk along the shores of Lake Natron in the lookout for birds and providing you with the opportunity to experience this magnificant lake from up close.
On our second day, we’ll explore some additional highlights of Lake Natron. Lace up your hiking boots for a trek to the stunning Ngare Sero Waterfalls and discover some of the area’s many volcanic craters. You’ll also get a closer look at Mt. Oldoinyo Lengai, the active volcano that continues to shape this remarkable landscape.
Due to its challenging accessibility, only a fortunate few have the opportunity to explore this rough environment. A truly ‘off-the-beaten-track’ destination. Perfect for adventurers seeking something extraordinary.
Rise and shine! After a delicious breakfast, we embark on a morning drive around the lake to check in with the surrounding wildlife, then head towards Serengeti National Park. We’ll enter via ‘Klein’s Gate’ on the east side of the park around noon, followed by an afternoon game drive in one of the world’s largest and most diverse parks.
Serengeti National Park is famous for its vast plains, home to numerous predators such as over 3,000 lions, cheetahs, leopards, and many other creatures. As we explore the park, we’ll be on the lookout for these magnificent animals while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
The next day, we start with a sunrise game drive, followed by a full day exploring the park’s vast landscapes. If you’re lucky, you’ll witness the Great Migration—the annual movement of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and other animals across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, a true highlight of any safari.
For a different perspective, consider a balloon safari over Serengeti’s iconic plains, where you can spot wildlife from above. This early morning adventure includes a champagne breakfast, making your experience even more unforgettable.
After a morning game drive in the Serengeti, we’ll head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After registering at the gate, we’ll continue to drive to a scenic and remote location, which marks the starting point for a guided walk along the crater rim, led by a local ranger.
On your way, you will walk past colorful wildflowers and lush trees unique to the Ngorongoro Highlands. The highlight, however, is the mesmerizing view of the Ngorongoro crater.
During the hike you may encounter numerous birds, such as the olive-colored sunbird, the cinnamon-collared bee-eater and the European roller. Furthermore, you may also encounter larger fauna such as giraffes, zebras and elephants.
Your local guide/ranger can tell you all about the local flora and fauna and is an expert at tracking animal species.
After breakfast, we will drive towards a steep and narrow road that takes you into the Ngorongoro crater. A bumpy, but adventureous road with some beautiful views! The slopes are forested, but soon the landscape changes to savannah.
Down in the crater, you’ll be able to spot many animals from a distance. Here is your best chance to spot all the members of the Big 5, including the endangered black rhino!
After the first gamedrive we’ll have a relaxing picknick-lunch at a hippo-filled lake. After lunch, we’ll slowly drive back to the edge of the crater and stop whenever we pass an interesting sight!
After an early start around 5 am, we’ll head to a remote area of Lake Eyasi to meet one of the last tribes living as our ancestors did centuries ago. The Hadzabe maintain a traditional ‘hunter & gatherer’ lifestyle and communicate in a unique ‘click language.’ Despite their appearance—dressed in animal pelts and carrying bows and arrows—they are warm and welcoming.
You’ll have the chance to join their daily activities, including a hunt. Please note that hunting is a genuine part of their culture and may not suit everyone. After lunch, we’ll enjoy a guided walk around the lake, home to various birds, mammals, and occasionally flamingos and hippos.
On the second day, we’ll visit the Datoga tribe. They are proud blacksmiths, breeders, and hunters known for their ironwork, crafting arrowheads which they trade with the Hadzabe. The Datoga live a primitive life, rejecting colonization and opposing the government, earning them the name ‘Mang’ati,’ Swahili for “respected enemy.”
After breakfast, we’ll slowly make our way back to Arusha, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing. If you’d like to discover a little more of the genuine local culture of Tanzania, you may use this day to explore the villages along the way together with your guide. Ask him to take you to his favorite spots and learn what life is like for a local citizen of Tanzania.
The following day is a free day with no scheduled itinerary—a well-deserved opportunity to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of your accommodation before heading back home the next day. Whether you choose to lounge by the pool under the African sun, indulge in delicious meals, or treat yourself to a morning cocktail (it’s the holidays, after all), this is your time to unwind. Reflect on the incredible journey you’ve had as you soak up the final moments of your adventure.
The safari is sadly over, but today you can finally sleep in, relax and enjoy your last hours of Tanzania’s incredible beauty and renowned hospitality.
At the end of the day, your guide will be waiting for you once more, for a wonderful farewell. Today you will leave not only with your bags, but also with a head full of everlasting memories, incredible experiences and jaw-dropping stories for your friends and family back home.
Safe Flight!
Tip: Extend your holiday with a visit to one of Tanzania’s other tropical islands such as Zanzibar, Mafia or Pemba Island.
