Discover the vibrant marine life of the Indian Ocean on a semi-submarine tour. Enjoy the fresh ocean breeze on the upper deck and explore the colorful reefs from below the waterline. With a maximum of 8 guests on board, this is an intimate and immersive way to experience Zanzibar’s underwater world without getting wet.
Your tour begins at the departure lounge at Forodhani Gardens, where you’ll receive a professional safety briefing. Children are fitted with life jackets here, and you can enjoy free Wi-Fi, snacks, and drinks while preparing for the trip. Larger bags can be safely stored in the lounge, as they are not allowed on board.
After the briefing, your guide will escort you to the boarding platform using a shuttle boat. Depending on the tide, boarding takes place either from nearby steps or the beach. Once aboard the semi-submarine, the captain and crew will welcome you and provide a short introduction.
The 30-minute cruise to Bawe Island is best enjoyed from the upper deck, where your guide shares insights into Zanzibar’s history, Stone Town, and the surrounding islands. As you approach the reef, you’ll move to the lower deck, where you can observe coral formations and marine life up close, supported by fish and coral ID charts and explanations from your marine guide. Sit back and relax as you watch fish dart between colorful corals and see the sand slowly shift with every wave. Divers outside the submarine also take complimentary photos of you through the panoramic windows.
* Kindly note that children are permitted from age five and above. Pregnant people at any stage are not allowed to participate.
** All semi-submarines are air-conditioned and equipped with USB charging ports and WiFi.
